Stempra’s Lunch and Learn returns for 2025! During the summer, we will be organising several online lunchtime sessions in partnership with EurekAlert! — our lead professional development partner. Each session will feature experts talking about a topic we think will be of interest to our members.

Wednesday 25 June 12:00 – 13:00 p.m. BST

Online panel event

About this event
For the first Lunch and Learn for 2025, we invite you to join us for an online panel discussion with science communications experts from three major science powerhouses in Asia — China, India, and Japan.

Each panel member will break down how science communications and the news media work in their country, provide some tips for communications professionals more used to dealing with the Western news media, and gain insights into their working life. The panel will be chaired by Brian Lin, director of editorial content strategy at EurekAlert!

The panel members’ presentations will be followed by a Q&A for our members to ask any questions they have about how they can work better with the Asian news media.

Our expert panel:
Professor Fuji Nagami — Group Leader of Public Relations at Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, Tohoku University
Ranjini Raghunath — Communications Officer at the Indian Institute of Science
Xi Chen — Journals Communications Manager, Greater China at Springer Nature

Chair:
Brian Lin — Director of Editorial Content Strategy at EurekAlert!

Ahead of the event, have a read of a blog post by Professor Fuji Nagami and Researcher Misaki Arakawa from Tohoku University. The Journey of a Genomic Research Press Release Guide from Japan provides an overview of how and why their new press release guide was developed. The guide was built with input from researchers, doctors, genetic counsellors, journalists, and the public. It’s available in English and is a helpful resource for anyone working in science communication across research, media, and the public.
