“Honestly, I think managers and mentors learn so much from their experience in these roles, far more than they give back, so it feels humbling to receive an award for something that is a complete joy and privilege. I am lucky to work with such talented and dedicated professionals and in such a brilliantly supportive and positive industry. STEMPRA does an amazing job of supporting both new starters and more established professionals and it’s lovely to be recognised by such a fantastic group.”
The Rob Dawson Mentorship Award celebrates those who go above and beyond to inspire, support and encourage others.
2023
Launched in 2023 in memory of Rob Dawson, Stempra Chair (2019–22), the Rob Dawson Mentorship Award honours his legacy as a bold, creative communicator and a generous mentor. Rob was known for making time for his peers, sharing his expertise freely, and helping others to succeed.
About the Award
The award recognises individuals who have made a positive impact by supporting, encouraging or guiding others in the science communication and engagement community, embodying Rob’s spirit of mentorship. We’re looking for mentors who go the extra mile, make a lasting impact, and share their time and expertise generously.
Who can be nominated?
You can nominate anyone who has provided meaningful mentorship or support (for example, a manager, colleague, peer, community mentor, or friend). Nominees do not need to be Stempra members.
At least one of you, the nominator or the nominee, must work in science communication or engagement. The other person may be outside the field, and the support recognised does not need to be career-related.

Previous Winners
“I was truly honoured to be the first recipient of the Rob Dawson Mentorship Award. Being nominated by my STEMPRA buddy made it even more special, it was a wonderful way to celebrate what we had achieved together. The award is a brilliant way recognise the many ways the science PR community supports one another. Rob was a champion of creating space for others to thrive, and it’s inspiring to continue that legacy in his name.”
