About this event
A key part of working as a science press officer is the ability to reach diverse and engaged audiences with STEM stories. Local and regional media, with its unique ability to connect with communities, offers something distinct and invaluable from national or international coverage. Additionally, it often serves as a scientist’s first experience to the world of media outreach.
Our expert panel comprises seasoned journalists and PR professionals who will delve into the benefits of working with local media, the key aspects can make a STEM story genuinely compelling for local audiences, and share hints and tips for pitching and working with local journalists. We’ll also discuss some case studies along the way, and reflect on why local media is more important now than ever.
The panel will include:
- Steve Coleman, Executive Producer – BBC Radio Merseyside
- Zoe Trinder-Widdess – Head of Communications at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration West
- Clare Bebb – Head of Corporate Communications at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
Chair:
- Nicola Frost, Stempra committee member and Communications Manager at the University of Liverpool.
